Ciao Venezia, Buongiorno Firenze!

Today was a transit day with not much to write home about.  The morning started with breakfast, where a fellow Australian tourist warned us about Florence, pick pocketers, gypsies and the use of babies to distract tourists as their belongings are being stolen. This is exactly what Mick didn't need to hear, and it made him even more 'alert' and possibly a little alarmed!

The train took 2.5hr to Florence and was extremely easy, we even got the occasional announcement in English which let us know we were on the right train. Once we arrived at the station it was just a short 15 min walk, and we were in our new hotel in no time. The Hotel Olimpia is on the 3rd and 4th level if a building right on the main piazza, it's quite old and even has one of the old style lifts with an outside and an inside set of doors.

We spent the afternoon wandering the streets, we walked across the Ponte Vecchio (or 'that Bridge from the postcards' as Mick would call it), took some photos of the fake David outside the Palazzo Vecchio and walked inside the Duomo. We now have our bearings for a full day of sight seeing tomorrow!

While we didn't come across any pick pocketers, Mick has been practicing his best Borat impression "get away Gypsie", just in case it's needed!
