Day 1 - Lisbon

After a long flight via Singapore and Heathrow we arrived at Lisbon international airport around 10 am in the morning.

After a quick and pleasant taxi ride we arrived at our hotel, where we met a fellow traveller, Arielle, part of our tour group. We were soon dropping off our bags, and heading out to explore the beautiful city of Lisbon.

We walked down to the river and then through one of the old quarters before stopping at a cafe for a well earned beverage of the alcoholic persuasion - it was very hot this stage and a beer was required, even though was only midday!

We went back to the hotel and had a siesta before meeting Arielle in the lobby to go and get dinner the Bairro Alto (high district). The sun was still up as we climbed the step inclines of Lisbon's streets, making for the colourful entertainment district. We had some drinks on the steps of an alley way in front of a tapas bar before settling on a restaurant to eat at called Bota Alto (the high boot). The food was good (even though we over ordered), and the 1.5ltr of sangria was even better. We were all bushed so we headed back to the hotel, making plans to meet up the next day to organise a visit to Sintra, a nearby UNESCO listed village. We hit the sheets tired but excited about the days to come.
